This contemporary violin was made by the Hungarian born maker Janos Bodor. His family came to America in 1956 where Janos started making violins under his father’ direction. Janos Bodor, the father, began work in 1957 at Moennig & Son Violin Makers, Philadelphia. By 1966 Janos also started working at the Moennig shop. This 1971 violin is made in the Scarampella model of 1881. It has an exceptionally flamed two-piece back and ribs and a two-piece spruce top with perfect straight grain. The width of the grain is 1.0 mm. in width and slightly grows in width at the flanks. The carving is exceptional, the execution of lines are professional, and Janos has also achieved beauty with simple antiquing in the varnish. The oil varnish is a deep orange/brown on a golden yellow ground. The violin is completed in English boxwood fittings.

• Corpus 356.0 mm.
• Major Width 208.0 mm.
• Minor Width 167.0 mm.
• Rib Height 30.0 mm.
• Vibrating String Length 325.0 mm.

This violin is in excellent condition, and the sound is off the charts. It is responsive and instant with power. The overtones are noticed as soon as a bow hits the G string; they make the violin jump. Yes, the bottom end is huge and lush. The treble side is rich and sweet. The response off the strings is evident right away and it does not sacrifice power. The overall character is clear, yet woody, being very articulate in the middle of its register too. This violin is ready for a serious player looking for the instrument of their dreams.
