T. PAMPOLIN – BRASIL
IPE – on the butt of the bow

Tiago Pampolin was born in Brazil in 1986. He started making bows in the Arcos firm in his teens. Early in his career he was trained by his bench mate in the shop Adriane Lima. Highly unusual, as he must have been a gifted maker at an early age. As a young man he studied fine bows, especially French makers. He is known by Mr. Judd for his higher level gold and silver bows made in the French Pecatte style. He is a meticulous craftsman as well as being very artistic in his choice of pearl in his bows and the tolerances for his fittings are always a Wow! As an artist he knows and feels how to taper the stick starting behind the head and gradually growing in size. Bow making is an art, and Tiago senses what the wood can handle thickness-wise for each bow Tiago makes gold, nickel, and silver mounted bows for the shop. His bows are stamped “T. PAMPOLIN- BRASIL.” The stick has some flex and is also firm, all completed in round in section. The wood name, ipe, is also stamped on the butt of the bow. Ipe grows and is harvested in Brazil. The ebony used in making the frog only grows in Africa and certain parts of India. It is an orange/ brown colored stick leaning slightly towards the brown color. The bow is just oiled, allowing the natural color of the wood to shine. The last 18.0 cm of the bow is in octagonal section, allowing the stick to accept the frog. The frog is nickel silver mounted and is a Parisian eye model, not a Peccatte model. The heel is two pieces of silver, and the fittings are held in place with pin work. The frog is older ebony stock. Dark and polished nicely. The winding is nickel with a leather thumb grip to capture the silver at the frog end. The pearl in the eyes has some slight hint of color while the pearl slide is a knockout in color. The bow is new, in excellent condition, and just received into the shop in 2026.
