MADE IN GERMANY – on the bottom rib

We have an older German violin in which I can’t place a maker or a workshop in Northern Germany. The spruce top plate has medium width straight grain. The neck, scroll, and ribs have no flame or curl in the maple. The back plate is two-piece maple and has a very faint visible flame. We have gone over the violin giving it a new set of pegs, cambering the fingerboard, new bridge, soundpost, tailpiece, chinrest, and end button. The violin has no issues and great age.

Corpus 357.00 mm., Major Width 203.0 mm, Minor Width 168.0 mm, Rib Height 30.0 mm

The violin has a mature sound, leaning to the darker side of the tonal spectrum. The instrument is not as bright as a new violin made in today’s age. The G and D strings have a nice gutsy ring, and very good sustain. The violin simply resonates well as soon as you play it with a bow. The A & E strings ring with an attentiveness that does not disappoint. The strings are sweet and a good complement to the bass side. Both sides put out some power and help the violin come alive. This violin would also make a great instrument for a fiddler. American fiddling, Irish, and or Scottish. This would be a gem for that kind of work. I like the violin a lot. It has no issues and has a great sound for the price of the violin.
