We have a handmade violin made by Henry Fisher. Henry grew up in Lancaster County,
Pennsylvania. H.R. and I have a few neat comparisons. He made his first violin at the age of 13. I made my first violin when I was 13, but I had a lot of help. I can’t say I even made most of my first violin. Henry grew up on a farm in Lancaster Co. I grew up the city, New York/ New Jersey area. I think we both had a love for the instrument. H R’s won an award in Tucson, Arizona at the violin makers international competition. My handmade violins have not won awards. Henry continues to build where I have stopped building violins, I have just followed my passion restoring older instruments and pernambuco bows.
This violin is made with traditional wood and has a very fine two-piece flamed maple back. The flame is small to medium width with a very slight descent from the center seam. The ribs match the back plate in degree of flame and width. The instrument is completed in rosewood fittings, and the oil varnish is a clear satin. The instrument is currently strung with Evah Pirazzi strings.
Corpus 355.5 mm, Major Width 204.0 mm. Minor Width 165.0 mm. Rib Height 29.0 mm.
The violin has some punch. The Evah Pirazzi set of violin strings is a great assist to the sound. The bottom strings have a deep resonance and the treble side also has tremendous power. The top rings and is on an par with the bottom voice. The instrument is quick to respond to a good bow. I found sticks in the 61.0-to-61.7-gram weight bow helped resonate the violin well. This weight of the bow made a big difference in how the violin responded. A 60.0 gram bow did not vibrate the plates as well. This is a handmade violin, very nice and the instrument is priced to sell.
