*ALBERT NÜRNBERGER*
GERMANY – on butt of the stick

The Nürnberger family has a long and excellent tradition of bow making beginning in the early 18th century. These sticks from Markneukirchen and especially from the Nürnberger and Pfretzschner family have become very sought after and very valuable in the last 15 years. This bow is directly in line as the sweet spot for German bows. It is a bow that is highly sought-after by players. Workmanship is always way above average, and the playability of the bows is outstanding.

Albert Nürnberger (1854-1931) learned bow making from his father Franz Albert Nürnberger Sr. Senior was one of those who signed the founding document of the bow maker’s guild in 1888. Albert Jr. took over the management of the family workshop after his father’s death in 1894 and led the firm to a very high position in German bow making. He was an outstanding businessman and bow maker. The stamp with the asterisks surrounding the name began to appear on their bows around 1920. The bow is in excellent condition, being pernambuco, octagonal in section, and sterling silver mounted in ebony. The frog is definitely 19th century to early 20th century Nürnberger style and is a Parisian eye model. The slide and eyes in the frog are mother-of-pearl. The heel is one-piece and all the silver on the frog and end button are held in by silver pin work. The silver lining is held in place by two very small bronze screws. The winding is sterling silver, and the leather thumb is goat. The bow has no issues and is in fantastic condition.
