IPE – on the butt of the bow
We have a sterling silver mounted violin bow made by Tiago Pampolin in 2025. He lives in Brazil and works in the bow making workshop of Arcos Brasil, LLC. The bow is ipe wood and IPE is stamped on the butt of the bow. The ipe is in round section and comes from Brazil. These silver mount sticks are choice. The stick was picked by the maker to create the bow. Mr. Judd knows Tiago for being a meticulous craftsman, highly skilled. The wood he selected is firm in its makeup and will handle all kinds of string articulations. The sterling fittings at the frog make the rest of the bow feel light. Tiago carves an erect head for all his sticks. The tip style does not change from a nickel stick to a silver mounted bow, or a gold mounted bow. The stick is firm and great fit for a more serious player. Tigo’s knife work in the chamfers is carved with careful detail. The ipe color in the bow is a deep orange/brown. The bow is oiled after the stick is incremented and completed before the frog is fitted, the winding completed, and then the bow haired. The frog is Parisian eye model while the heel is two pieces of silver mounted with pin work. His bows show excellent detail, and he sets his own high standards. The pearl in both eyes and on the slide has beautiful hues. The winding is silver tinsel mixed with an olive green silk. It is different and classy. The winding captures at the frog end with a leather thumb grip. The frog finishes with a three-piece sterling silver button. Sterling silver mounted bows carry a higher quality selected piece of wood. All chosen from the experience of the maker. The stick has tighter grain and dense wood. There is good performance with the bow, and it handles easily producing a large powerful sound on your violin.
