IPE – on the butt of the bow
We have a sterling silver mounted violin bow made by Tiago Pampolin in 2025. He lives in Brazil and works in the bow making workshop of Arcos Brasil, LLC. The bow is ipe wood. The ipe is in round section, comes from Brazil, and for this stick is choice. The wood is firm in its makeup and will handle everything for off-the-string articulations. The sterling fittings at the frog make the rest of the bow seem very light. Tiago carves an erect head for his sticks. The sticks are firm and great for a player looking for good fight and strength in a bow. The tip style does not change from a nickel stick, silver mounted bow, or a gold mounted bow. The knife work in the chamfers is carved with careful detail. Mr. Judd knows him for being a very meticulous craftsman. The color on the stick leans to a brown hue with a touch of orange. The bow is oiled after the stick is incremented and completed before the frog is fitted and then haired. The frog is a Parisian eye model while the heel is two pieces of silver mounted with pin work. His bows show detail and high standards. The pearls in both eyes and on the slide have a mixture of colors. The winding is silver tinsel mixed with a green silk, captured at the frog end with a goat leather thumb grip. The frog is completed with a three-piece sterling silver button. Sterling silver mounted bows bring a higher quality ipe piece of wood. They have tighter grain and denser wood. All this to say, this bow is for a serious player looking for better performance. This bow handles well and will make a very good addition in your bow quiver.
