Sean Peak 16” Viola – Chicago 2023 Light Weight Gem!

We have a Sean Peak viola in very good condition. The viola is light in its makeup and carved very well, especially the interior linings and blocks to keep the weight down. The body runs just an 1/8” longer than 16” in the corpus. The viola is well made, with slightly larger exaggerated f holes which aid in the sound response. The violin has all ebony fittings and is currently set with Vision Solo viola strings. The top plate is cut in spruce with a medium-width 1.0 mm. grain that is straight, and the top has been burnished with a piece of wood before varnishing to bring out the grain of the wood. The back is maple, one-piece, and flamed. The ribs match the degree of flame found on the back plate. The viola has a Despiau grade B bridge cut for it and the chin rest helps the player move their alignment closer to the center of the instrument with a Teka chin rest in ebony with black hardware. The oil varnish is a medium red/brown with a golden/amber base. The varnish is rubbed in places to give the instrument an older, slightly worn look.

The viola speaks well. A player will notice the response the instrument gives you even with little effort in the bow. The sound is instant with depth and maturity. If you’re laying into it with the bow, the sound resonates so much you may someday day need a sound suppresser. The tone is inviting and I can feel the instrument pumping. A maestro leading your orchestra may ask you to keep it down, the viola just has great driving sound. Yup, a violist will fall in love with the bottom end and totally enjoy the sophistication of the D and A strings. They are clear and powerful, full of life, making this viola stand out. The instrument is very healthy, powerful, and should ooze even more presence and power the more it is played.
