Are you looking for a silver mounted pernambuco bow for a great price? This could be it! Pernambuco bows are harder and harder to find. Going through my piles of bows this gem of a stick was uncovered. Remember, the bow is crucial to a violin. Without it, every note would have to be played pizzicato. For professionals, choosing a bow is as personal as choosing an instrument. This bow deserves to be taken out on trial.

This bow has a wonderful old piece of pernambuco that has been here in my workshop. It had no frog, winding, or leathers; it needed everything. The stick was hanging up by the head of the bow in my bow collection. I dusted it off and began cleaning the stick to really check out the wood. I ended up deciding to go all the way on it, getting it back as a player. The stick is firm and deserved to be in someone’s hand playing again. The wood itself is over 100 years old; it has beautiful color, it’s streamlined and firm – very nice. By all the way, I mean a new bone tip, new sterling winding and leathers, and I adapted a sterling frog that was lying in my box of violin frogs. The bow is now a hybrid bow with the addition of an entirely different frog. The frog is Parisian eye model in sterling mounts with an end button that has a silver cap. The bow responds well and has a balance point just under 10 inches to the end of the cap. A good silver playing bow for a nickel price.
