Jinlong Yang Grade V Cello – Beijing 2026

We have an outstanding cello made by VSA award winner Jinlong Yang from Beijing. Jinlong has won awards for tone and first prize awards for his carving in cellos and violins here in America and in Asian competitions. This instrument is a serious player. It could easily be played in any major orchestra.

It is carved in the Stradivarius model and Jinlong’s workmanship is at a very high level. The detail is exquisite and it is made of European tonewood. The spruce top is excellent in its make up. The grain is even, straight, and expands slightly in width at the flanks. The maple back plate has a high degree of flame. The flame is medium width and slopes down from the center seam. The ribs, neck, and scroll are all made from the same tree. The degree of flame is outstanding and matches all the wood choices in every detail. The oil varnish is a golden orange/brown on an amber base and is spot on beautiful. The varnish will hold up well and naturally wear, continually looking amazing even after 60-75 years. We have cut a grade A Belgium model bridge that comes from 200-year-old maple trees harvested in the French Alps and the pegs are cut in South American rosewood. The tailpiece is an Akusticus, and the endpin a lightweight tubular steel classic German endpin. The fittings are all high end and help make this instrument shine.

The cello is awesome in power, majestic in its resonance, and has a presence about its sound that surrounds you. The low-end pops with power as the G string is rich at its core much like the C and as you move up in higher positions remains just as strong and lively. The treble side oozes strength and liveliness at the same time, providing a brilliance and tone that sustains and offers no objections. The tone is sweet and full of life. This instrument will fill a concert hall and come alive with just a touch from your bow. Yes, I love the cello and its sound.
