IPE – on the butt of the bow
This fine gold mounted violin bow is handmade from Brazil in the workshops of Arcos Brasil. The bow was made by F. Correia, one of 11 bow makers who work in the shop. The bow is replica bow of a Sartory. Eugene Sartory (b. 1871 Mirecourt – d. 1946 Paris) was one of the most famous Parisian bow makers. The stick is made from Ipe from Brazil and it is a firm stick in round section. The grain in the stick is dense and well-planned throughout the length of the bow. The bow is balanced and easy to play with. The head is Sartory model and the camber of the bow occurs like a real Sartory soon after the head. The stick is orange/brown in color and only oiled. The bow begins in octagonal section for 180.0 mm where the bow is completed with a gold mounted frog with the traditional solid Sartory gold octagonal cap. The frog is a Parisian eye model with fine pin work on the heel, button, and holding the lining in place. Correia’s craftsmanship is at a high level and the tolerances on the fittings are a WOW! The gold frog is finished off with the slide and pearl eyes made of fisheye pearl. Almost bubbles in the shell. The winding is silver tinsel mixed with gold tinsel and then captured at the frog end with a lizard leather thumb grip. The bow lays in the hand well and plays lighter than the 61.8 grams. This handmade bow is new and is in excellent condition.
