August Prell Workshop Sterling Silver Violin Bow- Markneukirchen Area circa 1950’s Gem of a Bow!

Stamped:
A strong, silver mounted bow by the firm of August Prell. This is a very nice workshop bow with a sublime masculine erect head/tip area and the stick is choice wood. The stick is firm in its makeup and tapered in increments like that of a very expensive bow; not thick in its girth at all. But Wow! what a player! Exceptional playing bow. I meticulously went over the entire bow giving it a new tip facial in tip armor, new sterling silver winding and leathers, and a new mother-of-pearl eye on the player’s side. When redoing the winding, I shortened the length of the winding by 9.0 mm. This was done to bring the balance point slightly closer towards the tip and help get the overall gram weight of the bow down. The round stick is dark reddish/brown pernambuco and in excellent condition. I love the layout of the bow and the quick camber from the head. The frog has single mother-of-pearl eyes and is fully lined. The lining has two bronze screws that fasten it to the frog and the three-piece endscrew button has two silver pins. A very nice German bow that did everything I wanted it to do on a violin: grab the strings and ring the fiddle exceptionally, off the string articulations and crisp clean attacks that made my instrument jump. Nice age, workmanship, a great stick that passes, in my book, for a fine bow.
