We have a gold mounted cello bow made by Claudio Roberto Carlesson Chagas. Claudio is the oldest of three bow making brothers. He was born in the city of Joao Neiva in 1973. He started his bow making career in 1993. Claudio works under the umbrella of the bow making company Arcos Brasil. He spends many of his working hours doing higher end bows such as special edition bows in sterling and nickel and gold mounted bows. His bows are stamped “C. CHAGAS – BRASIL.” This handmade bow is exceptional. Remember, bow work is four arts all handwork rolled into one: woodworking, leather work, hair dressing, and in this case gold smithing jewelry work. It is a gold mounted bow with an Italian water buffalo horn frog mounted in gold. The frog has mother-of-pearl Fleur-de-Lis in each facial of the frog. The mother-of-pearl slide is called fisheye, beautiful gold cream-colored shell that looks like tiny bubbles. The winding is silver tinsel thread with gold tinsel accents captured at the frog end with a lizard leather thumb grip. The bow is finished off with a three-piece end button: gold, horn, and gold with a pearl end. The wood is Ipe, harvested in Brazil. It is a firm bow, round in section, and will totally generate a powerful sound off your instrument. The stick is only oiled and shows a darker orange/brown color. The finest sticks are chosen to accept gold fittings as this bow is in a whole other level of cello bows.
