Non-Stamped Pecatte Style Pernambuco Cello Bow
$785.00
This is a commissioned cello bow for the string trade. The bow is a pernambuco stick, octagonal in section, and is nickel mounted with a goat leather thumb. The wind is accented with black silk for ornamentation, a nice touch on this level of a bow. It is not stamped with the makers name, though it should be. The workmanship on the stick is very nice, and the fitting work/jewelry work detailed to the thousandth of an inch. I’m impressed with the quality of the bow.
Dominique Pecatte’s bows have a dignified uniformity of elegance which leads me to name the bow as such. Every bow that he completed was made with the greatest care and is now worth close to 100 grand or more. His bows were made with a darker chocolate-colored wood, and his heads were very masculine with a carved sharpness towards the peak – like this cello bow tip. This bow is better than a nice student pernambuco bow, it deserved to have the makers name on it.
The bow has a single eye French model frog with 8.0 mm eyes. The frog is ebony and the heel and lining have all pin work, which is very nice to see. The end button is finished off with a white abalone pearl. The workmanship is also noticed in the more elaborate winding and leather thumb. The bow is firm in its makeup and balanced. The camber is gradual from the head and recedes back towards the lower third of the bow. The bow handles well and feels solid in the hand. The stick falls into the range of a cello bow at 82.1 grams. It has a clean octagonal design and a well pronounced head. It is a firm player with beautiful wood. The bow will make a great stick for the serious student looking for their first pernambuco bow.
