Non-Stamped Excellent Nickel Mounted Viola Bow- German circa 1950
$795.00

We have a pernambuco viola bow, nickel mounted, in an octagonal section. The bow is in excellent condition. I went over the entire bow and decided to give it a new silver winding and leathers. The bow deserved it. After a good cleaning it revealed gorgeous wood. The stick is firm and is an excellent piece of tight grain wood. It reminds me of the wood from the W. Seifert shop in Bubenreuth, Germany. Seifert bows almost all have this iconic grain in the wood with an almost dark and yellow fleck revealed through its polished stick. I can’t pinpoint from which workshop because there are no other markings on the bow. I’ll stick to just saying it is a German bow. The bow has a camber that occurs gradually a third of the way down the head. The ebony frog is a Parisian eye model and fully lined. The end button is three pieces and finishes off with the white abalone shell. The mother-of-pearl slide matches the eyes in the style and color of the abalone eyes. This handsome bow is masculine and strong in its makeup; almost all violists love that in a bow. This bow is finished in nickel therefore it won’t bring a $1,000 or more price. The stick handles very well and is a firm player. A seventy-year-old bow in excellent condition. A healthy German gem.
