Founded in the United States in 2004, L’Archet Brasil had a mission to distribute bows made by skilled luthiers in Brazil. The business model was that L’Archet would distribute the bows in the U.S. and the bowmakers would retain their independence. L’Archet has since expanded to Europe and Japan. In Portugal, they have five bowmakers and three apprentices. This is an exciting time for the company and took much prayer and courage to relocate to another continent and bring entire families along too. Great job Geroge M. and your team of bow makers.
This is a pernambuco nickel cello bow made for us in 2025. It was handmade in Portugal by Marcello Pereira for J.R. Judd Violins and is round section, pernambuco, and mounted in nickel silver with a standard nickel winding and leather thumb grip. The ebony frog is a Parisian eye model; mother-of-pearl eyes surrounded by thin silver rings. The frog is fully lined, and the bow is finished with a wild colored mother-of-pearl slide, bone tip, and the adjuster has a three-piece octagonal button. Marcello Pereira is one of my favorite bow makers; he was formerly making in Brazil. He has great insight on the layout of a bow: excellent cambers, and his choice of wood selection always tends to be firm in its make up. Yes, this bow is made out of pernambuco, and the stick is strong. Marcello’s workmanship is always consistent. This is a great choice for a player looking for a lifetime bow to bring out the sound on your cello.
