Haematoxylum campechianum is commonly known as campeche or logwood. It grows naturally in southern Mexico and has long been used in the making of dyes and pathology microscope slide stains. Since Brazil has embargoed the use and export of pernambuco due to threat of extermination from deforestation, bowmakers have searched for alternative woods that can match the characteristics of pernambuco. Campeche is known by some as “Mexican pernambuco” because it so closely matches the playing properties of pernambuco: strength, flexibility, density, elasticity, and resilience.

This bow was made in Portugal by Marcos Pereira. Marcos has been involved in the bowmaking trade since 1984 and is known worldwide for his professional quality affordable bows. The campeche has a reddish tint and is made in round-section. The mounts, winding, and adjuster are all sterling silver. The fully-lined ebony frog features mother-of-pearl for both the Parisian eyes and the slide, and the lining shows three delicate pins. A leather thumb grip and solid silver adjuster finish off this bow that is perfect for the advancing player, conservatory student, or professional.
