We have a German model bass bow made in brazilwood. The stick is firm and is made well. The head and stick are strong, and the bow is completed in round section, and is nickel mounted. Brazilwood is a cousin of pernambuco. It comes from Brazil too, and like pernambuco, is only found in Brazil. The frog is half lined and made from ebony. The frog is a blind eye model and lays in the hand with a nice throat. The pearl slide has excellent color: white hues, almost bubbles, and some blue flecks mixed in. The ebony endscrew is 55.0 mm long; the length of the endscrew on a German model bass bow is more than just aesthetics, it helps to balance the bow. The ferrule and the winding are the only two items that are made in nickel silver.

This stick is made well and deserves to have the maker’s name on the bow. The bow would be fantastic for a high school or even college player looking to get out of a carbon fiber bow. Brazilwood lets the player feel the response of the instrument better and the bow should draw a rounder sound out of your bass. Carbon fiber bows in general help your instrument to generate a brighter sound. A wood bow will help to tamper that down. Don’t let brazilwood scare you, especially if all you have ever heard from players is pernambuco. This is an excellent choice for a bassist looking to get into a wood stick. For the price you can’t beat this bow.
