August Rau (1866-1951) was one of the outstanding German bow makers of his time. He worked in the shops of Wilhelm Knopf and A.R. Weichold in Dresden before returning to Markneukirchen to open his own shop. His bows were considered the equal of any other fine bow maker of his time.
This two-star round-section pernambuco bow features a full silver mount, silver tinsel winding, blind ebony frog, and a silver button. The maker's name is stamped upside down on the player side of the bow.
