We are offering a beautiful workshop Heberlein Jr. (1843- 1910) violin. Heinrich was the most famous member of the Heberlein family and one of the best Markneukirchen makers of his day. He studied with his father, Carl August Heberlein. In 1863 he established own independent workshop in Markneukirchen, where he worked up into the 1900’s He also taught at the Markneukirchen violin making school and his instruments received about a dozen medals at exhibitions throughout Europe. He studied the fine Italian violins and made gorgeous replicas of the old masters and copied their traits.
This was not made by him but by one of the makers in his shop. It is a Wow! The varnish was always applied to each instrument to imitate an older, classic worn appearance. The varnish on this instrument is stunning. Heberlein was a detailed person in every aspect of building and finishing the string instruments and/or bows he made. Supervising his workshop he would have passed down these traits to all that worked for him. The wood in this violin is choice. The spruce top is medium-width grain, straight and the grain widens at the flanks. The back is highly flamed two-piece maple, medium to wide-width that jumps in the light. The ribs match in the degree of the maple flame. We bushed the treble side of the peg system and cut a new set of pegs, new soundpost, and a new bridge; an entirely new set up because the violin deserved it. I went with a Wittner tailpiece and a Teka chin rest. The tailpiece can always be changed to an ebony tail, just ask. The violin has been played and loved on over the past century. The patina is real, and the wear is genuine.
Corpus 356.0 mm.
Major Width 209.0 mm.
Minor Width 167.0 mm.

The instrument lacks nothing tonally. It’s easy to play, with a powerful clear voice full of overtones. The G and D strings ooze with power and maturity. It is responsive and can handle a light touch and could take everything I could give it with a powerful bow stroke. The sound is clear while leaning slightly to the darker side of the spectrum. The treble side was amazing, responding instantly and rang with sweet overtones. Wow! The sustain is very noticeable throughout all the voices. This violin is a winner that will bless your socks off. A tonal center in its voice that kept on giving. A special violin for the violinist looking for soloist sound in a package under 5K.
