Zhang’s Workshop One-piece Back Violin, 2005
This violin is striking to the eye. The back and ribs match in degree of flame. Zhang’s work has been influenced by Italian schooling and studying the famous Cremonese makers. His construction of the instrument is very clean and refined. This is not the average student level instrument coming out of Beijing. The label is signed Zhang Shu Mei and was completed in 2005. It is finished in a golden orange-brown varnish. The sound is responsive, and the violin has volume across all of the strings. I particularly like the treble end and how sweet the tone carries. This is a perfect violin for someone who wants an instrument two levels higher than a basic rental violin.
