“The Hummingbird” Feiyang Violin, circa 2004

This is a beautiful violin made with curly maple and a straight grain spruce top plate. Feiyang made violins in Shandong Province of China. His instruments always have a special back. This violin was made around 2004. The arching is spot on and the mother-of-pearl inlay picture of a hummingbird and flowers set this instrument apart.
The violin sounds amazing for an instrument in this price range. I call it a Wow sound. The instrument is powerful, speaks well, and rivals instruments in the 3K range. The response off the E & A strings is instant. The tone is clear and the bass strings are very muscular. This violin will be a hit with any fiddler. The treble sound is amazing and leans to the brighter side.
