Giuseppe Lucci, Roma 1970 Violin
An outstanding modern Italian maker who won many medals. This Guarneri pattern violin is signed by the maker on the label. It also contains his brand positioned above the label and above the end button. Lucci was considered one of the best late 20th century Italian makers by specialists like Sacconi and Marlin Brinser. His work is superb, always hand done and modest in appearance. The modest arching lends itself to full tonal power.
The sound leans slightly to the brighter side and has a tremendous personality. I call it muscular, full but in every part of its range the violin retains its unique character of clarity mixed with sweetness. It’s a chocolate bar with something even sweeter inside. The instrument has excellent projection yet plenty of nuance. This is a real winner for the player looking for a concert instrument.
