This is a German trade instrument in very good condition. The arching of the plates adds to the power and focus of the sound. All ebony fittings and set up with a Wittner tail piece from Germany. The back has some tight, smaller-width flame and the ribs match in degree of the flame. The violin has an amber/brown varnish that has developed nice natural patina. The instrument is in very good condition and has some playing wear to give it character.

Corpus 357.0 mm., Major Width 204.5 mm., Minor Width 167.0 mm., Rib Height 31.0 mm

The violin has depth in the sound and a nice focus in its core area- the 1st – 5th positions. The violin lays well and is comfortable to play; with ease I call it, and the G and D string resonate with warmth. The lower strings project well and are very nice up in the 3rd and 5th positions. The sound on the lower end is powerful but very pleasant to listen to. The treble side is slightly brighter in its color and vibrancy. The upper end has strength and rings better than well. This instrument would also make a great violin for a Scottish, Irish, or bluegrass fiddler. The sound throughout is a great surprise in an instrument in this price range. A German violin with character, age, and a very nice sound.
