Jay Haide à l'ancienne violas are handmade in the Italian tradition. This Stradivari pattern viola features a two piece maple back and two piece spruce top. The orange-brown oil varnish contains much patina. Fitted in ebony with Helicore strings with a Larsen A.
These instruments are quite striking because of their finished looks. The quality of antiquing gives them a hundred year old look to them. These violas are excellent instruments for the more intermediate and advanced players.

This viola is created on the lira di braccio pattern, which lends itself to more comfortable reach of the higher positions. The back is two-piece maple with a medium flame. The top plate contains a fine to medium width grain. The viola has an orange brown varnish on a golden ground. The varnish is slightly antiqued. This instrument has a rich, beautiful sound. Fitted with boxwood pegs, chinrest and tailpiece and Helicore strings.

A rare find of such a great sound for the price. This 16" viola has a beautiful curly maple flame on the back plate and matches in degree of flame on the ribs. Fitted in Parisian eye pegs of rosewood specie it also is finished in a rosewood tailpiece, chinrest and button. The viola has a warm even sound almost in a woodwind quality. The varnish is an amber-brown with a touch of orange and very lightly shaded. Currently strung with Evah Pirazzi strings with a Larsen A.

This German viola, model number HC410, was made for the Howard Core Company in 1999. Two-piece maple back, highly flamed. Flame ascends from the center seam. It has an amber brown spirit varnish and is fitted in boxwood with ebony pins and collars.

Mittenwald circa early 1700s. Two piece maple back of medium curl. Matching ribs. Two piece spruce top of fine to medium width grain. Yellow brown varnish on a golden yellow ground. Much patina. Fitted in ebony with Helicore strings. This viola contains a graft and the pegs have been bushed. It has a beautiful reedy sound that is rich in tone. This is a perfect instrument for a smaller serious player.
