Pernambuco is the finest material for bowmaking and offers a rich sound, superb flexibility, and strength for the serious player. Brazilwood is a related specie which provides a low-cost alternative to pernambuco for the player who still desires a wood stick. Carbon fiber is a high-tech material offering excellent response, projection, and durability. Fiberglass is a low-cost, highly-durable material appropriate for the beginning violinist.

The K. Holtz bow is designed with the beginner's budgets and needs in mind. They are extremely durable, setup with real horse hair, and feature ebony frogs mounted in nickel silver and mother-of-pearl. The bows are wound with silver-plated wire and are equipped with a genuine leather grip.
